Heraldry was born in the age of the Crusades, when knights in closed helms needed to be known on the field, and the cross became one of its most common charges. In the language of the heralds this shield is gules, a chevron argent between three crosses pattée or: a white chevron between three gold crosses on red. Framed in gold and embroidered in Crusader red, white and gold on black twill.
