The First Crusade besieged Antioch for seven months, starving through the winter outside some of the strongest walls in the East. On the 3rd June 1098 a tower guard let Bohemond's men in over the wall at night, and the city fell. Days later the crusaders were themselves besieged inside it by the army of Kerbogha of Mosul. On the 28th June, half-starved, they marched out and broke him. The siege and its year, MXCVIII, on a black tab with a maroon edge.
