At the Council of Troyes in 1129 the Knights Templar were given the white mantle, the colour of purity, and in 1147 the red cross was added above the heart. The red cross pattée of the Templars on a field of white, set above three chevrons in black and red, the heraldic mark of rank. Framed in gold and embroidered in Crusader red, black, white and gold on black twill.
