The world as the crusaders imagined it.

Medieval mapmakers did not draw the world as we do. Their maps placed east at the top, where they believed Paradise lay, and set Jerusalem at the very centre of the world. The three known continents were divided by great waters in the shape of a T, all encircled by the ocean.

This full-colour T and O map follows that tradition, with Asia above, Europa and Africa below, the Mediterranean, the Nile and the river Don dividing them, and Rome, Constantinople, Antioch, Babylon and Alexandria marked within. At the summit sits Paradise, and at the heart of it all, Jerusalem.
