In November 1177, Saladin marched on Jerusalem with an army that far outnumbered anything the kingdom could put in the field. King Baldwin IV was sixteen and already suffering from leprosy. On the 25th November he caught Saladin's army strung out near Ramla and charged with a few hundred knights, Templars among them. Saladin's army broke and he barely escaped. The battle and its year, MCLXXVII, embroidered in white and Crusader red on black twill.
