The counterweight trebuchet was the heaviest weapon of the crusades: a great beam on an A-frame, a box of stone or earth at the short end, a sling at the long end that could hurl a boulder against a wall again and again. At the siege of Acre in 1191, the French king's trebuchet was nicknamed Malvoisine, the Bad Neighbour. The trebuchet with its counterweight and sling, embroidered in white and Crusader red on black twill.
